What Amazon publishes about its process
Amazon: SDE II interview prep (opens in a new tab)
- After the application, an online assessment: 90 minutes for two technical questions, then about 20 minutes of system design scenarios and an 8-minute work-style survey.
- An interview loop of four 55-minute interviews, with an outcome within 5 business days.
- At least one question on software systems design; code must be syntactically correct, not pseudo code.
- Each interviewer typically asks two or three behavioural questions based on the Leadership Principles.
Amazon: SDE III interview prep (opens in a new tab)
- A 60-minute technical phone screen with a senior leader: about half Leadership Principles, half coding and system design.
- An interview loop of five 55-minute interviews.
Amazon: early-career SDE online assessment (opens in a new tab)
- For full-time roles: a coding assessment (about 70 minutes), a work-style assessment (about 15 minutes), a work simulation (about 60 minutes) and a feedback survey.
- For internships, about 90 minutes in total, without the work simulation.
Across the accounts
- Leadership Principles questions appear in nearly every round candidates describe, technical rounds included.
- Candidates for the same role describe many different sequences of rounds. Treat any order as one candidate's experience, not a rule.
